About Velara

Big enough to matter, small enough to care.

Velara Surgical is an independent medical device company working with clinicians in ENT & CMF, colorectal surgery and women’s health.

The idea

Move the procedure, or take a step out of it.

Hospitals are short of theatre time, not short of patients. A device earns its place with Velara if it lets a procedure move out of theatre and into the rooms, or if it removes a step from the procedure that stays. Single-use where single-use beats reprocessing. Capital placed on site so a department can start with consumables. The patient has less to go through and the hospital gets its list back.

The gap

Why these devices weren’t already here.

Plenty of devices that would do this never make it into Australian hospitals. The large distributors carry thousands of products and can’t give a niche device the time it takes to change practice. The smaller brands have no one on the ground. So the device sits in a catalogue, and the patient gets the older option.

Velara is built for that gap. Every line comes with training before the first case and support in the room for the cases that follow, from the same person every time.

Who

Rhys Beard

Velara was started by Rhys Beard after ten years selling and leading sales teams in hospitals, across ENT capital equipment, gynaecology and wound closure. He is the person who answers the phone, runs the training and is in the room for the case.

Buying from Velara

Direct, and simple for public hospitals.

Velara sells direct to hospitals, day surgeries and practices. Quotes, orders and invoices come from one place.

NSW Health facilities can buy direct from a small business under the SME policy in PD2024_044 for purchases under $250,000, on one quote, even where a whole-of-government contract exists. Velara has a one-page summary of the policy for procurement teams. Ask for it.
